Epilogue
And all the things that you’ve given to me
I see now were simply reparations
They were gifts of your guilt
They were my preparation
--Ani DiFranco – Letting the Telephone Ring
There’d been nights from which she’d awoken very slowly, revelling in a dream-felt touch, lingering in the twilight zone between the harsh daylight of a fake trivial world that they called earth, and the magic of the night where dreams led her to some sort of other reality. And even though the world she was in during those nights was never more crystallized than the world she was to face when she opened her eyes and had to squint them against the sun coming in through her window, she sometimes wished that that dream world would never end.
Maybe that was why she was an actress. She found it hard, sometimes, to face the real world, where a lot of things that happened were unfair and other things were so beautiful, that it was hard to believe both of them were real, existing in the same world. Not like in her dreams, or some of the scenes she had to play, where the usually sharp contrast between good and bad was but a vague line, which you would step over not even having noticed you just crossed it. And she sometimes wondered how much of those scenes she had to play before she lost total sight on reality.
And,
what was real life, anyway?
Maybe it was why, when she stepped out of the car and put her feet on the red carpet, she felt truly comfortable with the deafening sound of the screaming from the girls around her. Her feet were on the floor but her mind was somewhere in another world, flying through it, trying to grasp onto something that turned out to be just air, just to keep herself in that world for a little while longer. In that world where nothing was black and white, and some things were just indefinable. With a smile on her face she approached the horde of screaming fans behind the fences, the girls waiting for her to share some of her dreams with them.
And when she saw him, much further down the line, he fit right into that world she’d been dreaming about. And she averted her eyes for a little while longer to keep the woman with him out of her line of sight.
The smell in the air was full of life, and she felt alive, felt the life flow through her veins, the smile still on her face, still genuine.
She worked her way down the line, and suddenly he was in front of her, a smile on his face, a warm look in his eyes. The way he used to look at her, before. And the woman next to him smiled too, the gap in between her teeth ironically making her even more beautiful than she already was.
And she’d never met her before. But right in that moment when she saw her, she recognized the fire behind the sweet smile, she recognized that she wasn’t the only one caught up in another world, not wanting to leave it. And for a moment she saw the three of them from a distance, herself included, looking at each other and she saw the figures there clearly waiting for their own eye opening moment, waiting for that moment where they would be forced to squint their eyes against the harsh daylight and face the reality that was life.
Even when it had been 30 long days since she’d awoken to the first morning without him, she felt that this dream wasn’t over yet and wouldn’t be over for a long time. And maybe it was because she was the only one who had the knowledge of that fact that when the reporters in their real life world asked her about the kiss, she was able to just giggle and say: “he was great”.

I love her meeting and understanding Vanessa.
With a smile on her face she approached the horde of screaming fans behind the fences, the girls waiting for her to share some of her dreams with them.
I love this. Keira is wonderfully gracious with her fans IRL...one might almost think she'd learned how to be from Johnny, one of the most gracious actors in Hollywood.
Nicely written ending, however. I really love this. :)
You're very talented, and I absolutely adore your writing style. Love you, thanks for sharing your brilliance with us. :)
I friended you. :)
And thank you thank you for the compliments! I'll return the favor of friending you.
I hope you'll write more J/K...
